Donegal County Council is inviting members of the public, community groups, landowners, businesses, and organisations to have their say on the draft County Donegal Biodiversity Action Plan 2026 - 2030.
The Draft County Donegal Biodiversity Action Plan 2026-2030 provides a framework for biodiversity action over the next five years with the vision to protect, restore, and celebrate biodiversity in County Donegal. The Biodiversity Action Plan has been prepared by Donegal County Council and the County Donegal Biodiversity Working Group following a period of public submissions and stakeholder engagement last year.
Biodiversity is the variety of life around us. It’s the plants, animals, habitats and ecosystems that make County Donegal such a special place. Donegal’s coasts, uplands, bogs, rivers, islands and farmland support a rich variety of wildlife and are central to the county’s identity and wellbeing.
The draft Biodiversity Action Plan responds to national commitments and Donegal County Council’s biodiversity duty, and focuses on practical action, including improving knowledge and awareness, managing Council lands in more nature-friendly ways and building strong partnerships and local projects across Donegal.
The Draft County Donegal Biodiversity Action Plan 2026 - 2030 is available for review from the 23rd of February to 23rd of March 2026 and is also accompanied by the Appropriate Assessment Screening Report and the Strategic Environmental Assessment Screening Report for the Draft County Donegal Biodiversity Action Plan.

All submissions should include your name and address, and where relevant, details of any organisation, community group or company etc., which you represent.
The deadline for submissions is Monday 23rd March 2026.
