Erasmus+ Study Visits for Library Leaders
Senior library managers from across public library services in Ireland are undertaking study visits to libraries abroad as part of the Erasmus+ funding programme. Each study visit involves a 5-day mobility to another EU country and includes job shadowing, training activities and meetings with library leaders in the host country relating to innovative service delivery and user support.
A study visit to the Netherlands took place from the 18th to the 22nd of May 2025 and involved senior library managers from fourteen local authorities, including Donegal. The group visited libraries and met with managers and staff from across Amsterdam, Utrecht, Nieuwegein, the Hague and Groningen library services.
The visits offered an excellent opportunity to gain deeper insight into the very popular and highly community-focused Dutch services.
The Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) is the coordinating organisation for Erasmus+ funded mobilities for public library services, while the Erasmus+ programme is managed nationally in Ireland by Léargas.
