J. Scott Skinner Concert – A Celebration of Scottish and Donegal Fiddle Traditions

October, 17 Friday 08:00PM - 09:30PM

Cove Hill, Port Road, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, Ireland. F92 C8HD

Join us for a spirited evening of traditional music as some of the finest musicians in Scotland and Ireland gather to honour the legacy of legendary Scottish fiddler James Scott Skinner (1843–1927). This special concert is a fundraiser in support of a campaign to erect a statue of Skinner in his hometown of Banchory, Aberdeenshire.

Although Skinner passed away nearly a century ago, his influence is still keenly felt — especially in Donegal, where his distinctive style and compositions left a deep mark on local fiddlers, including the iconic John Doherty. His tunes continue to resonate in the Donegal fiddle repertoire today.

The concert features acclaimed Scottish fiddler Paul Anderson, one of Skinner’s most devoted interpreters and champions. Paul has released numerous solo albums, holds an honorary doctorate in music, and was recently awarded an MBE for his contributions to Scottish traditional music.

Also performing:

  • Violin and cello duo Orsolya Szabó-Yélamo and Victor Yélamo, known for their rich and emotive interpretations
  • Fiddlers Séamus Gibson and Martin McGinley, rooted in the Donegal tradition
  • Multi-instrumentalist and educator Paul Harrigan, joined by talented young performers from his Letterkenny-based music school Ceol na Coille

Additional guest musicians will be announced.

All proceeds go toward the Scott Skinner Statue Fund — celebrating a figure who helped shape the sound of a generation and whose influence endures today.
