Ireland Reads - Irish Emigrant Letters from North America with Breandán Mac Suibhne

February, 20 Thursday 06:00PM - 07:00PM

Central Library Letterkenny, Oliver Plunkett Road, F92R273

The Imirce Project provides access to thousands of letters, memoirs and other documents composed by Irish emigrants to North America from the seventeenth through the mid-twentieth centuries.

For researchers of Irish and North American history, Imirce is an enduring connection, across time, to generations of emigrants, while for the descendants of those emigrants it is an opportunity to reconnect, across the broad Atlantic, with the home that they left behind.

Breandán Mac Suibhne, Professor of Modern Irish History at the University of Galway will deliver a fascinating talk about the emigrant letters and give an insight into the project that allows so many people to make connections with their past.

The talk is free of charge, but please book a place by phoning Central Library at 0749124950
